Kickstarter Story Editor Complete Guide (2025)

Kickstarter's story editor uses a block-based system. Every element — headings, images, bullet lists, video embeds — is a separate block. Understanding the rules of each block is the difference between a page that converts and one that confuses.

Block Types

Heading (H3): appears in the Table of Contents sidebar. Use for major sections. Subheading (H4): secondary sections, not in ToC. Paragraph: body text. Bullet list: unordered only — no numbered lists. Image: full width, 680px column. Embed: paste a YouTube, Vimeo, or Spotify URL.

Formatting Rules

Only bold and italic are available as inline formatting. No font sizes, no colors, no alignment. Hyperlinks open in a new tab. Images support a caption, alt text, and a click-through URL.

Table of Contents

Every H3 heading automatically appears in a sticky sidebar ToC on desktop. Plan your headings as navigation labels, not just visual breaks.
